Sunday Oct. 13
Tom Leighton will participate in the first of two televised gubernatorial "debates" this Sunday on ABC TV at 11 AM for 90 minutes. All 7 candidates will be there. Check your local ABC affiliate for your area - it may not be broadcast everywhere in New York. Or it may be broadcast at another time of the day.
Tuesday-Thursday Oct. 15-17
We will be campaigning in Rochester & Buffalo next week. If you want to meet up with us, reply to this E-mail ASAP or call 212-370-1835 and leave a message.
Sunday, October 20
There will be a second, shorter debate in Syracuse on Sunday the 20th. We will hold a small rally at the TV station (show of support with lots of people & leaf signs) outside the studio before and after the debate. We are hoping to find a location at which we can gather for lunch and Syracuse campaign planning.
More New Fliers
We now have yet another new, improved campaign flier that can be sent to you by E-mail as a PDF file. We have 8.5X11" size black & white and color versions & an 11X17" color version. Some or all of these will be on our web site today or tomorrow. If you live in the NYC metropolitan area you can get copies directly from us.
A Request
PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE start calling radio talk shows, news stations, rock stations, hip-hop stations. If you are on the air, talk about medical marijuana and our campaign.about. You can also call the talk show hosts when they are not on the air to urge them to have Tom Leighton on their show. As for rock, hi-hop, and & news stations, just call them (especially the morning shows) to ask them to have Tom Leighton on as a guest. THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT.
We need to target Howard Stern's show. He does take some calls, usually between 6 and 7 AM. The number in NYC is 212-314-9322. Maybe your local station can give you an 800 number to call, but we are not sure about that. If you leave a message
If you live in the New York City metropolitan area, call any show you can. In addition to Howard Stern, we are also trying to target WBAI. We want to focus on the Morning Show, but there are others that would also be worthwhile. So, if you are a listener of that station, please try to call them to talk about the issues and ask them to have me on as a guest on their show.
We continue to get more radio spots around the state, especially on rock stations. Please call your local rock station to ask them to have Tom Leighton on as a guest and/or just talk about our campaign.
Finally, call any Hip-Hop station you know about.

Take the time to write to your local paper, the NY Times, the NY Post, and Newsday. The Daily News seems to be OK

Campaign Update 9/27
This week was very successful. In Albany we got exposure on 3 TV stations,
4 radio stations, and had a press conference that was attended by a number
of print media outlets and wire services.
The Ithaca Times has officially endorsed the MRP for the election !!!!
(Sorry, that was last week).
We now have great new campaign brochures which are available for
distribution, mainly in the NYC metropolitan area. Unfortunately, we
cannot afford to ship them around the state due to the high cost of
shipping and time required to do so. However, we can send you a PDF file
of our flier that you can print out and make copies (Staples has pretty
cheap prices if you ask for the "economy" quality, which is on cheaper
paper, and make a minimum of 1,000 fliers).
I will bring our campaign brochures to any city I visit, so you can get
some brochures if you can meet up with the campaign when we get to Albany,
Rochester, Buffalo, or Syracuse. In addition, brochures will be available
soon in Albany and Rochester because we have reliable people there to
distribute them to you.
Please contact your local head shop or hemp shop to ask if they will put
our flier in their window. If so, we can also send you a color version in
either 8.5X11" or 11X17" size. If you can make a good quality color
version on your own printer, we can send you the PDF file(s) of them also.
If you live in the NYC metro area and will distribute our new brochure
and/or our fliers please reply to this E-mail (provide your name and phone
number please).
It now appears that I will be in the debates - stay tuned for confirmation
and dates (probably 2 or 3 debates in the week of October 13 >20).
The next two campaign trips will be to Rochester and Buffalo. If you live
there and can help to make arrangements for media interviews, join in any
possible campaign event, or attend a potential press conference, please
reply to this E-mail (include your name and phone number).
If you make it to Hemp Splash this weekend, just look for our team - we
will be there on Saturday with our brochures and I will speak on stage at
some point.
