Hello welcome back for issue 6 of Tips & Tricks
Right from the start again,
A few of weeks ago I harvested my plant, and unfortunately
it was a bad harvest....almost no Yield compared to other
harvest before. I know for sure that next time I really go
for the best soil again. I was kind of lazy to use the
old soil with no nutrients inside. Meaning that in flowering
period the root system couldn't transport the fertilizer to
the top of the plant. This is caused by acid soil.
If you can harvest a little more then 10 grams from each
plant you're doing a good job (dry buds ofcourse).
Anyway next week I start all over again with a new strain
called K2 a very fast flowering strain only 45 days.
This strain is perfect for indoors because it stays small
and give really fantastic bud formation. I hate it when
a strain starts to get Bushy in the end..All leaves are
hanging over the buds so the plant don't get full light.
K2 is a strain that develops buds instead of leaves.
It saves you lots of time in the end when cutting the buds.

FLOWERING
For Outdoor growers it will be mother nature that control
your plants. When days are getting shorter the plant will
be induced to start the flowering period.
But indoor growers have full control over their plants by
simulate the oncoming winter with dark cycles of 11-13 hours.
There is no other requirement other than to keep the dark
cycle for flowering completely dark with no light interruptions,
as this can stall flowering by days or weeks.
Don't go "too early" into Flowering. Give the rootsystem of the
Young-seedling some time to develop a good root system.
To extra stimulate the process of Rooting I refer back to
issue 5 "Product Rhizotonic" For example: If you start with
good clones / cuttings it is possible to go into flowering
just after 5 days of vegetative grow. The plants will grow for
at least another 2 weeks before they start developing buds.
The height of the plants in this situation will reach about
50-60 cm.
If you didn't start with only females, you have to look
carefully in the first 2 weeks before you go in to the12 hour
cycle. Look for 2 white hairs emerging from an area at
every inter node. This is the easiest way to verify females
early on. See picture below. "You can not tell a male
from a female by height, or bushiness"

hermaphrodite that means a mix between male and female in one plant....this doesn't happen that much..

After 3-6 weeks, your plants will be covered
with these white pistils emerging from every grow tip on the
plant. It will literally be covered with them. These are the
mature flowers, as they continue to grow and cover the plant.
If you want to boost your crop for more yield in the end
you can ofcourse supply your plants with fertilizers.
There is some good stuff on the market today and you
can really see the difference if you use them.

**Some help full Tips**
I cannot stress enough that during the FLOWERING PHASE,
the dark period should not be violated by normal light.
It delays flower development due to hormones in the plant
that react to light. If you must work on the plants during
this time, allow only as much light as a VERY pale
moon can provide for less than 5 minutes-
Flowering plants should not be sprayed often as this will promote
mold and rot. Keep humidity levels down indoors when flowering,
as this is the most delicate time for the plants in this regard-
Look for the white hairs to turn red, orange or brown, and the
false seed pods (you did pull the males, right?) to swell with
resins. When most of the pistils have turned color (~80%), the
flowers are ready to harvest-
Don't touch those buds! Touch only the large fan leaves if you
want to inspect the buds, as the THC will come off on your
fingers and reduce the overall yield if mishandled-

Question:

Hi all!!
I have a question regarding bud formation. Do the buds grow in
BOTH the light and dark stages or does most of the work go
into forming the buds when dark and phytochrome hormone present?
If so, then why is 12/12 suggested and not something like 10
(light)/14(dark) ??
Do larger/better buds result when using a longer dark period is
what I am saying? Does it depend on strain ?

They grow in both light and in the dark but your right they do
grow more during the dark part of the photoperiod. The 12/12
period is more what you would deal with in nature (not nice to
screw with Mother Nature) but I have cut the period down to
10/14 and really couldn't destinguish any difference than with
a 12/12. Bud formation, phyllotaxy, flowering and almost
anything else does depend a lot on your genetics, can't really
say if your bud formation would be better with longer nights but
you have to remember the more the plant gets light its building
up sugars and starches that the plant needs to survive,
personally I would stick with a 12/12 during flowering.....
Peace and good grow'n
